Any idea as to how one might reinstall the customized Dell launcher on a standard Hardy install? I found that Dell limited the max amount of RAM that their version of Hardy will see. In order to take full advantage of my 2GB RAM, I had to reinstall using the standard Hardy installer from the web.

Anyway, when trying to reinstall the Dell launcher, Hardy is looking to binary-i386 and NOT Dell's binary-lpia sources. I hope that makes sense. I've been a Windows guy for a while and am just now getting neck deep in Linux.

Added this to source.list

deb http://dell-mini.archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/ hardy-netbook-base main universe multiverse restricted

And got this when doing an apt-get update.

W: GPG error: http://dell-mini.archive.canonical.com hardy-netbook-base Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY F9FDA6BED73CDC22

E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

Its looking for i386 packages and all the packages are for lpia.

How can I use the LPIA packages?

Now that I've loaded the standard netbook remix launcher and gotten it working, the Dell one is pretty lame. I'm now happy without the Dell launcher. :-)

The repositories require an authentication key, but I didn't save the stock key before I reinstalled Ubuntu. Can anyone post their key so that I can actually use the repos? Much appreciated, thanks!

Tony
If you reinstalled using the Dell provided disc you are probably just going to use the official Ubuntu repository. I believe that disc is just regular Ubuntu 8.04.

No key needed

Thanks redDead! Didn't think I'd get such a quick response. The reason I ask is because I'd like to download the netbook interface that came with the Dell originally, as well as the desktop switcher and the package that lets the Fn-2 key work. I tried to find them in the repositories, but I could only find desktop switcher deb. I know its frivolous (I'm also anal about getting all my Fn keys to work) but I was hoping I could find it online. I can't find that key ANYWHERE.

Tony,

My focus here is on Ubutnu 8.10 with Gnome, Compiz or Netbook Remix not Dell's Mini OS/custom UI. You can post your questions on the Google group. There are a lot of people who run Mini OS there and a post about getting the function keys to work. I could care less about the f2 key so I never looked into it.

I, too, am interested in finding out what package i need to install in order to get dells' custom launcher.

Any ideas? Links?

Thanks

Joey,

I had stopped my search for the Dell custom UI awhile ago. You might want to as well, but if you do find it then you're a better, more patient man than I. You might have some luck if you browse through the dell mini archive that Steve wrote since manually adding the repo requires a key that can't be found either. I don't know what the package is called, but its there and I'm sure gdebi can install it.

I just went with UNR 9.04. It's ok. It messes with Compiz a bit, so if you'd rather have that working well, stay away from UNR.

redDEAD, not like you'll allow this to post, but thanks for the 'I don't give a shit' speech. I heartily apologize for throwing off the flow of your thread. Next time I'll be sure to know better.

Sorry masta, ain' gunna happen no mo'!

For those looking to install the custom dell launcher, this forum thread might help. Haven't tried it myself yet.
