Chromium is the open source project behind the Google Chrome web browser. While Chromium is still in development, it is shaping up to be a feature rich browser. It's already fast, has native theming support for Linux, flash support, and extensions.
Like the installing Firefox 3.5 guide, this how-to will use a Personal Package Achieve (PPA) to install and update Chromium as development continues.
Step 1: Add The PPA
- Go to the PPA for Ubuntu Chromium Daily Builds Webpage
-Select your distro, the PPA has builds for Hardy (8.04), Intrepid (8.10), Jaunty (9.04) and Karmic (9.10).
- Add the Chromium daily build repository for your distro to your source list
in a terminal:
- Paste, save and exit
Step 2: Add The Repository Key:
- Copy the key from this public key server page (use the 1024R Link)
- Paste it into a text file
- paste, save and exit
- Go to Software Sources (System->Administration->Software Sources)
- Under the Authentication Tab select "+ Import Key File..."
- Navigate to where you have saved the PPA key.
This will leave you in the root area of your hard disk, if you saved the key in your Home folder you will have to navigate to it. (File System->Home->user folder)
- Import the key
- Update your Repositories

I watched an episode of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicals on Hulu and a couple of YouTube videos. Playback is decent, but I'd really like to know what you think of it.

Looks quite nice, performs well enough when it does not crash .. Useless to me at the moment as google reader does not work ironically, google mail hangs as well on login .. better luck next build maybe... The flash performs terrible but that seems to go for all browsers on the mini 9 too choppy (Karmic)

Thanks for the tip on how to get flash for chromium. I have been testing chromium for a couple months, and have been using it regularly for the past 2. My only problem was that flash did not work, but now with your plugin, it work quite well. I have no problems with it so far.

Can this work with Chrome. I have the Chrome development build on my mini. I think it's a little more stable then the chromium build. I have been using it as my primary browser for a while now, but would like flash support.

Hey I installed chromium and flash exactly as you described, but when I go to Hulu and even YouTube, the sites don`t recognize that I have flash installed. I did verify that libflashplayer.so is in the chromium plugins folder. Any suggestions?
Followed your instructions step by step but on my Mini9 didn't work with a 9.04 and a custom 2.6.30 kernel. No flash support. All fine with FF3.5 or earlier versions. Any tips?
this is a development build that will break from time to time. flash is not currently working with chromium right now, this happens with alpha software.
