In order to enable audio you need to add a line to your /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file.
- In a terminal type:
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
- Then add this to the bottom of the alsa-base.conf file:options snd-hda-intel model=dell
- Then reboot the machine for the changes to take effect.Have a question or problem that this article doesn't cover? Ask our Ubuntu Mini 9 Google Group for help. |

I get a static sound when ever sound is playing in the speakers might you know of a fix for this.
I have the a90.
And static started after installing karmic.
check your sound settings, might be the mic.
I recently updated to ubuntu 9.1 and have not had sound since. I did everything this article says and I still have no sound from my Vostro A90. Any Ideas?
Korn,
You updated so it could be a couple of things. Try reinstalling pulse or making sure you volume is up in sound preferences under output.
Anything else and I really can't help you. Upgrading is hit or miss, and without physical access to your machine I'm shooting in the dark.
I updated from Ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10 on my Vostro A90 and also lost the sound when I did that. My fix was to install gnome-alsamixer. When I ran that mixer, I found that the master volume control was off/muted. Turning it on and up gave me sound through both the speakers and earphones.
