I like the animations and am glad they are returning, it looks slicker and can't use that much processing power. Still not sold on the disappearance of the right folder bar, I liked the one click access to each folder.
I wonder if this new color/look is really going to happen.
I am currently using UNR v9.04 (Jaunty J.). If I upgrade to v9.10, will I lose all my currently installed applications and settings?
I tried alpha 4. But the netbook-launcher crashed all the time.
It looks like this is an evolving thing. Does Ubuntu have any kind of feedback forum for this?
Bringing back the animations is good, but I still think the right side bar was a good idea. I think the darker current theme is better too.(I've never been much for Ubuntu's brown.)

If your / and /home folders are on different partitions the settings are not effected.
Upgrading to Alpha software is not recommended, it may crash or go bad and cause you to lose data or settings. If you want to try it out make sure to backup your data.
Looks like a nice step forward.
Curiously, I don't find myself using the right side folder icons very much, so the collapsible folder directories would work fine for me.
What I'd really like is the ability to tweak the main left and right icon groups; adding, replacing, or removing groups I want, and building them the way I want them.
Nothing's easier than customizing the left-hand menu...launch "alacarte" then add, remove, rename, regroup, etc. (it's Gnome, w00t!) I'm glad the left-hand menu doesn't work its way to the bottom of the screen right off the bat, seeing as after installing a few apps, I'll need that space for "System Tools" and "Wine".
Keeping /home on a separate partition is wise, though settings and apps will be saved regardless of partitioning if you do an "upgrade" instead of a fresh install, which isn't really advisable. Whatever you do, back everything up! Shouldn't be too much to back up for a netbook unless you're lugging an HDD instead of an SSD.
